FEDERAL, STATE AND COUNTY ELECTIONS

The gubernatorial election cycle begins with a Primary Election in August of 2014. Florida is a closed primary state, which means the selection of a party's candidate in a Primary Election is limited to registered members of that party. If you wish to vote in a partisan Primary Election, you must be a registered voter in the party for which the primary is being held. All registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, can vote on issues and nonpartisan candidates in a primary election.

Offices on the ballot will include U.S. Representative, the Governor and Cabinet, State Represenative, State Senator and many county and local offices. Please refer to the Voter's Guide for a complete list of offices up for election in 2014.

Candidates who are seeking public office must file with the appropriate qualifying officer. While the cities set their own qualifying periods, other offices are subject to state law. The qualifying period is the time when you must finish qualification for ballot position. City candidates must file with their City Clerk. County candidates file with the Supervisor of Elections. State and Federal candidates must file with the Department of State, Division of Elections. Contact the qualifying officer for more information.
