Who Can Vote and Who Can Be Elected
 

Who Can Vote? Anyone who is:

• 18 years of age
• a citizen of the U.S. and meets the residency requirements of his or her state

Who Can Be President? Someone who is:

• a natural-born citizen of the U.S.
• at least 35 years of age
• a resident of the U.S. for at least 14 years

Who Can Be a Senator? Someone who is:

• at least 30 years old
• a citizen of the U.S. for at least 9 years
• a resident of the state where he or she is elected

Who Can Be a Representative? Someone who is:

• at least 25 years old
• a citizen of the U.S. for at least 7 years
• a resident of the state where he or she is elected
