How to register:
You may register to vote in person at the Elections Office, driver's license offices, public libraries, HRS centers and state offices that serve persons with disabilities. You may also register by mail. Mail registration applications are available at most banks, post offices, schools, libraries, city halls, or community centers, as well as many businesses throughout the county. You may also call the Flagler County Elections Office at (386) 313-4170 to have an application mailed to you or you may complete and print an application here. You may print a blank application here. The application must be signed and returned to the elections office. You may bring the the completed application to the Supervisor of Elections Office at 1769 E. Moody Blvd, Building 2, Suite 101, Bunnell or if you prefer, you may mail it to us at P.O. Box 901, Bunnell, FL 32110.
If you register by mail and you have never voted in Florida, and you have not been issued a Florida Driver's License, Florida Identification Card or Social Security Number, you will be required to provide additional identification prior to voting the first time. To assure that you will not have problems when you go to vote, you should provide a copy of the required identification at the time you mail your voter registration application.
All voters are required to provide ID containing photo and signature at the time of voting in the polling place. Without proper identification, a voter can only vote a provisional ballot.
You may
provide a copy of one of the following photo identifications (ID) that
includes your name and picture:
Florida Driver's License, Florida
ID Card, U.S. Passport, Employee Badge or ID, Buyers Club ID, Debit/Credit
Card, Military ID, Student ID, Retirement Center ID, Neighborhood
Association ID or Public Assistance ID.
Or you may provide a copy of one of the following documents that
contains your name and current residence address.
Utility Bill, Bank
Statement, Government Check, Paycheck or other Government Document.
Please do not send original identification documents.
If you meet any one of the following exemptions, you are not required to provide the additional identification:
If you are 65 years of age or older
If you have a permanent or temporary disability
If you currently reside out of the country but are eligible to vote in Florida
If you are an active member of the uniformed service or merchant marine (or spouse or dependent) who, by reason of such active duty, are absent from the country
When to register:
You can apply
to register to vote at any time. However, registration books close 29 days before each election. (Books remain
open for the General Election even though they may be closed for the Primaries.)
You
must be registered for at least 29 days before you can vote in an
election. If you mail your registration application, the date your
application is postmarked will be your registration date. If your
application is complete and you are a qualified voter, a voter
identification card will be mailed to you.
Your Flagler County voter
registration will permit you to vote in national, state, county and
municipal elections, if you live in a municipality. Registration is permanent as long as you remain a legal resident
of Flagler County (you must notify us of any change of address) and do not lose your civil rights due to a felony conviction
or adjudication of mental incompetence.
Party Affiliation:
You may
register in any political party of your choice or register with no party
affiliation; however, only registered party members may vote in their
party's primary.
Exception:
If all candidates for an office have the same party affiliation and the
winner will have no opposition in the general election, then all qualified
voters, regardless of party affiliation, may vote in the primary election
for that office. When this happens, it is called a "Universal Primary Contest."
Nonpartisan judicial and school board offices are
included in a primary election. All registered voters are entitled to vote
on these nonpartisan offices and on any issues in a primary election.
At
general elections, all voters receive the same ballot and may vote for any
candidate or question on the ballot.
