Why Should I Vote

2011 VOTER'S GUIDE DESIGN CONTEST

Kimberle B. Weeks, Supervisor of Elections, offered local high school students the opportunity to design the 2011 Flagler County Voter’s Guide, which is published yearly by the Elections Office. The up-and-coming artists worked hard creating their artwork and submitted over 40 designs for the contest.

To select a winner, Flagler County School Board members voted for their favorite cover. The students are very imaginative and talented, all of the designs were terrific. Surely it was a tough choice to pick only one! Of the 40 designs, the winning cover was created by Brandon Berry, a student at Flagler Palm Coast High School.

The Elections Office would like to offer our very special thanks to Flagler County School Superintendent Bill Delbrugge, and to the Flagler County School Board members and staff for working with us to provide this first-time opportunity for students.

We can’t wait to publish the Voter’s Guide. Congratulations Brandon!

COUNTY VETERANS HONORED

As part of National County Government month, the Flagler County Commission recognized veterans at both regular monthly meetings of the Commission. On Monday April 4, 2011, the County Commission recognized all veterans who are now County employees with a video that scrolled and announced the names of all 49 veterans.

Two Flagler County employees are currently on active duty in Iraq. The County Commission recognized all World War II, Vietnam and Korean veterans and veterans who now work for the Sheriff, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Elections, and the Clerk of Court. More than 100 veterans were recognized in April. Two employees of the Elections Office, Darlene Walker, US Air Force and Kathy Smith, US Navy were honored during the meeting.

The Flagler County Commission joined with the National Association of Counties and 3,068 counties in the nation to approve a proclamation dedicating the month as National County Government Month, “serving our veterans, armed forces and their families.”

There are 12,000 veterans living in Flagler County.
